Delve – A Writing Challenge
Welcome to Delve! This idea will either be a fun, challenging way to tell a story or a valuable learning experience. Personally, I’m hoping for a small combination of both -ha. Either way, I hope to entertain and give you a few moments of reading pleasure.
What is Delve? Delve is a fantasy story I’m crafting post-by-post. Each entry will be limited to the 300-character limit imposed by Bluesky—actually 266 characters, since I’ll be using a basic tag with all posts. Think of it as a bite-sized adventure unfolding before your eyes as it’s created. I’ll aim to post several times a week. Maybe more, but I want this to be enjoyable without stressing myself out trying to keep up. Don’t worry, I’ll use Word to ensure my posts have basic spell-checking and grammar. Something I obviously don’t do on my normal day to day social posts. – lol.
For those who haven’t followed my writing, here’s how it goes. I know where Delve starts and I have a pretty good idea where it will end. But everything in between? That’s what we’ll discover on the way. There’s no limit on word count or the number of posts. This story is an open journey that will grow and twist in, hopefully, unexpected ways. For me, that’s the magic of serial fiction.
Why Delve? If you’re familiar with my sci-fi novels, prepare for something different. Delve is set in a world of magic, monsters, and gods. This switch helps keep the sci-fi and fantasy worlds separate in my mind. Plus, it’s a refreshing change of pace. Don’t worry—Jax and her universe are still my main focus. These posts won’t interfere with my usual writing. The name Delve itself has several meanings, both personally and in the story, but I’ll mostly leave that to develop as things continue.
So, the gist of it is this:
– Delve: A fantasy story told post by post.
– Updated 1-2 times a week.
– No limits.
– No editor.
Each post will carry the tag #SiP (Story in Post). Sacrificing a few characters for this tag seemed worth it. Since everything in social media is tagged in some way. I wanted something I could use, unique seemed hard to come by, so I went with simple. Each post will also have a graphic showing which post it is. Images don’t count towards the character limit, so that’s nice. It will all be posted to the same pinned thread. If all goes well, I’ll compile the entire story on my website at a later time.
This all kicks off with this post 0. The long version here, but I’ll somehow summarize it all on Bluesky (link below) and cross posted on other social media. I’m putting effort into this initial post and post 1. Giving it a strong start seemed worth the effort. Post 2 will follow right away, and after that, it’s all on-the-fly creativity.
