It’s been a while since I’ve had a chance to sit down and write a post for the site. Between focusing on the books, keeping up with my day job, and handling some health things, finding the time for these extra updates has been a bit of a challenge.
But with a little breathing room today, I figured now was as good a time as any to let everyone know where things stand. We have Captain’s Fate Book 3, Delve and Short Stories to cover! It’s Big Update Time! Let’s dive into it!
Captain’s Fate
Book 3 is very nearly done! Well, Act 1 is, at least. I knew going into this that the first act was going to be a bear to get through, but I never realized just how much of a struggle it would be. Between carving out the actual time to sit down and write, I really wrestled with finding the right “voice” for this stage of the story.
I lost count of how many times I completely rewrote Chapter 1 before it finally clicked. Of course, by the time it felt right, I had already moved on to later chapters that no longer matched the new opening. The “cascade effect” was in full swing, and I was rewriting everything just to keep up! With every book, I try to challenge myself to write in a way I’ve never done before, and I’ll admit, this one nearly sank me while I fought to find the path forward.
Luckily, being too stubborn to quit finally paid off! As I’m writing this, I only have about a quarter of the last chapter left to go. A little more editing to make sure everything flows, and Act 1 will officially be in the books.
The best part? Acts 2 and 3 are already laid out. They’re written in that fast-paced, cliffhanger style I’m much more comfortable with, so I should be able to fly through them—assuming I can keep the clock on my side!
It’s going to be a kick-butt rollercoaster of a ride to the finish. Thanks so much for sticking with me as I work through this part-time passion of mine!
Delve
For those of you following along online, you probably know Delve as my “social media fantasy serial.” It’s built post by post, a few times a week, and while it started out as a fun little experiment, I have to admit the format is really growing on me.
Over on the website, Delve is easily the most popular item being viewed and downloaded. Sure, it’s currently my only free download, but hey, it still counts!
I have a clear vision of where the story will eventually end, but truthfully, I don’t think I’m anywhere near that point yet. Even though the story has covered a lot of ground, the total word count so far only equals about one long chapter in one of my novels.
If you’re into fantasy, mystery, or stories with a bit of a darker edge, I’d love for you to check it out! And if social media isn’t really your thing, no worries—you can find a collected edition on my website that I update every 25 posts.
The story is growing, the answers are only multiplying the questions, and the only way to find out more is to descend a little deeper. Come join the adventure!
Short Stories!
I have a few of these in the works, but once again, time is the ultimate arch-nemesis! One day—hopefully sooner rather than later—I’ll be able to start getting them posted. I have a handful already written that are just waiting on a final polish, a few that are little more than vague ideas jotted down for a rainy day, and several others that are constantly bouncing around in my head.
Bear with me! Just a reminder that I’m doing this writing thing part-time whenever I can find the spare minutes. Between family, the day job, and the major writing projects I mentioned above, my extra resources are pretty tapped out. Still, I have this one idea…
That’s it for this time, folks! Thanks for taking the time to read through it all, and remember to hit me up on social media. I’m always around for general discussions, questions, and all kinds of online tomfoolery!
Respectfully,
-Skip
