As I finish my re-write of book 3 chapter 2, something I wrote in my last blog post is really sticking with me. I was trying too hard. I got caught up in being a “writer” and not doing what I do best, telling a fun story.
There is a point where you can analyze too much, you can take too much input (tutorials on how other people do it, Et al.), follow too much advice and simply get lost in it all. Writing is a medium of self expression and I was trying too hard to be something I’m not. I tell fun stories, big blockbuster movie kind of thing. A story you can get lost in for a few moments and escape reality and have a good time.
Some day maybe I’ll post the original version of this chapter and people see the stark difference between the two. The first one almost reads like an artsy take on my story, rather than the action packed adventure it’s supposed to be. Artsy can be good, but it’s not me. I’m glad I made the change.
Now on to those other chapters! Image from book1 chapter 22
